San Romano
SSan Romano is a relative newcomer, founded in 1993 by the family of Giulio Napoli. Passionate and committed, the Napoli family setout to re-establish the tradition of Dolcetto di Dogliani. They embarked on a campaign to preserve the old vine vineyards of the area, salvaging what they could from the semi-abandoned land.
Today, the San Romano property consists of 20 acres in the Dogliani hills planted exclusively to the Dolcetto variety. Enormous effort is dedicated to the vineyards, which are cultivated respecting the environment and with rigorous agricultural practices. The vines undergo extensive pruning and thinning to ensure stellar fruit quality and to prolong the life of the old vines. Since the mid nineties, Beppe Caviola, Gambero Rosso’s “Winemaker of the Year” 2002, (also known as the “The KING of Dolcetto”) has consulted at San Romano. His collaboration and input have been instrumental in shaping the direction of San Romano, which is quickly on its way to becoming synonymous with the very finest Dolcetto di Dogliani.
